<description>I hope this message reaches you in the best of health and faith.

In light of the recent verdict in the Irvine 11 trial, we would very much appreciate the opportunity to visit your community and talk to your members about this case and our collective responsibility to stand up for justice. The Muslim Legal Fund of America has stood with the Irvine 11 throughout the trial and MLFA is funding their appeal. We would like to send a khateeb to address this issue with your community and to ask for support during an upcoming Friday sermon.
If such a time and venue would not be appropriate for this message then we would like to schedule an evening program in a town hall style format or public forum where an MLFA representative and possibly an attorney can address the issues related to the case and the role of MLFA in ensuring that the work gets done.

Please let me know when we can visit your community. As you can imagine, timing is crucial and the need to defend our freedom of speech and religion has never been greater.
The below dates are still available for your community to secure a visit from an MLFA representative who will talk about the work MLFA does and how your community can support freedom. Please let me know if any of the below dates or any other date would be appropriate for such a visit:

December 2
December 9
December 16
December 23
December 30
January 6
January 13
January 20
January 27
February 3
February 10
February 17
February 24

And any time throughout the rest of 2012.
I look forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. Please feel free to call me at 972 331 9021.
Thank you for your continued efforts and support.</description>

<description>Thank you Brian for your interest in Islam. You are more than welcome to attend our Friday ceremony where you will meet many brothers at the same time. Besides, on Fridays the Imam is also preaching so you get a chance to hear from him as well.

See you soon inshallah!

<description>I would like to introduce myself. My name is Brian. I must apologize ahead of time for anything I might say that might be inappropriate; I&#039;m completely unfamiliar with Islamic customs. I&#039;m interested in Islam, I just don&#039;t know where to start. Is it possible to come to the Mosque and sit in the back? Anytime is a good time for me, seven days a week.
Thanks for your time

<description>The Fiqh Council of North America and the European Council for Fatwa and Research, after careful examination of the Shari&#039;i sources and opinions of classical and modern scholars have concluded that it is permissible according to Shari&#039;ah to use scientific calculations for determining the Islamic lunar months. The criteria adopted by the two Councils are as follows:

The new moon (i.e. time of conjunction) is when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun closest to the Sun-Earth line. This time of conjunction is precisely predictable by astronomical calculation. The conjunction can happen at any time during the day or night. This precision is one manifestation of the laws that Allah created in the universe. In the Qur’an we read “The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed” [Al-Rahman; 55:4]. The Qur’anic Arabic term for computation in this verse is “Husbaan” which is an intensified form of computation or calculation meaning very precise calculation.
The new Islamic lunar month begins after the moment of conjunction [or at the beginning of separation] on condition that the moon sets on that evening anytime after sunset.
While the astronomical moon occurs in the whole world at the same moment, the Islamic day begins after sunset, and this varies from one location to the other. Therefore, a “conventional point of reference” must be chosen for sunset and moonset. Of various possible options, especially for Muslims residing in Europe and the Americas, Makkah al-Mukarramah was chosen by the two Fiqh councils.

This means that the moonset in Makkah al-Mukarramah must occur after sunset in that city. Data on sunrise, sunset and moonset are available in advance, and do not require any announcement. (For more information see: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/)

Following is the definitive astronomical scientific information for the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal this year:

The Astronomical New Moon (or conjunction) is on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 11:12 according to Makkah time. (It will be 8:12 GMT, 4:12 am EDT, 1:12 am PDT).
On September 29, 2008, the Astronomical New Moon occurs and sets before sunset in Makkah . This does not meet the criteria stated above (especially in “B” above).

On the basis of the above information the Fiqh Council of North America and the European Council for Fatwa and Research have announced that September 30th is the 30th day of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr1429 will be on October 1st, 2008.

We urge our communities to be united in their celebrations and wish them Eid Mubarak.

<description>Salaam alaikum brothers! As you may be well aware of the rule of shariah that proclaiming ramadan and eid can only happen upon citation of the moon. How come you annouce ramadan and eid a week in advance. Do you have knowledge of the unknown future? This is not according to the teaching of the Prophet PBHM. In many parts of the world, including Saudi Arabia, Tuesday, Sept. 30 is the first day of Eid. If you watch out tonight, I am sure you will also be able to cite the moon, depending on the clear skies.
